Abstract
South Korea moved from poverty to industrial prosperity within two generations. We are building an historical micro-database that tracks firms, output, employment, migration, urbanisation, and infrastructure through this transformation.
The project studies how place-based industrial policy, rural development, and public infrastructure changed the location and composition of economic activity. Its broader aim is to identify which micro-level mechanisms can produce—and sustain—rapid economy-wide structural transformation.
